In both Europe and Latin America, where smartphone shipments declined by more than 20 percent, Xiaomi's phone showed a significant counter-trend growth, according to Counterpoint.
Shipments of European smartphones in the first quarter were down 7 percent year-on-year and 23 percent from the previous month, according to Counterpoint.
Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi and OPPO are in the top five in Europe.
Among them, Xiaomi's shipment share increased to 11% from 4% in the same period last year.
In Latin America, the mobile phone market in the first quarter fell 20.8 percent year-on-year and 30.1 percent from the previous month, Xiaomi's share of shippments increased to 7.3% from 1.9% in the same period last year.
