The upcoming fourth generation of the iPad Air will feature USB-C connectivity, meaning Apple is expected to switch to USB-C for the first time in its iPad lineup outside of the iPad Pro, according to Japanese site Mac Otakara.
The report cites supply chain sources as saying that the fourth-generation iPad Air will feature USB-C connectivity, while the new iPad mini will retain the Lightning interface.
The Chinese vendor said the iPad Air (4th generation) will come with a USB-C interface, while the 8.5-inch iPad mini will feature a Lightning interface.
Mac Otakara also noted that the fourth-generation iPad Air will likely be developed based on the 11-inch iPad Pro.
The exact details are not yet known, but this could mean that the next generation iPad Air has narrower bezels, a larger display and a USB-C interface.
Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported last month that Apple is developing two new iPad models, including a 10.8-inch iPad and an 8.5 to 9-inch iPad mini.
These new iPads are expected to be launched in the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021, respectively, and are positioned similarly to the iPhone SE, with the selling point being a more powerful chip and a cheaper price tag.
