Apple plans to rely on the iPhone for live streaming at this year's WWDC, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
Apple announced last week that WWDC 2020 will kick off on June 22. For the first time, the conference was held in an online format due to COVID-19.
ABC detailed in April how a 45-person crew took an unconventional approach to recording this season of "American Idol.
It was speculated at the time that the producers were relying on the iPhone and the accompanying accessories.
TechCrunch's report confirms the speculation that they used three iPhone 11 Pro phones, a tripod and a ring light, and the show's crew helped the judges and contestants set up makeshift platforms to edit footage at home.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple flaunted the iPhone's industry-leading camera capabilities: "We know that people are relying on their favorite shows while staying at home, and we are happy to be a part of that process with the team at American Idol. iPhone offers a unique solution to deliver broadcast quality video, in the palm of your hand, while keeping production staff and on-air talent safe and in their homes."
At this year's WWDC 20, Apple will showcase the new iOS 14, and of course the new iPadOS, the new macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.
