The launch of Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons has successfully boosted the revenue of its same-IP mobile game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
The not-so-new mobile game had its best performance since hitting shelves in April, bringing the total to over $150 million, according to SensorTower.
Since going on sale on March 20, Animal Crossing has become one of the most-watched games worldwide.
It offers players a relaxing gaming environment and a platform to socialize and coincides with the global quarantine brought about by the novel coronavirus epidemic, a game that has brought comfort to countless lonely players.
The global buzz has also sparked interest in the Animal Crossing mobile game.
The mobile game, which went live in November 2017, saw a 547% spike in downloads (229% weekly, 30-day) after Animal Crossing: New Horizons went on sale.
And April 2020 also became the highest-grossing month ever for this mobile game after statistics, with players spending a whopping $7.9 million, a significant increase from previous months.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp's total revenue to date has reached $150 million, with the Japan region contributing $112.8 million, the main source of revenue.
It surpassed 44.8 million total downloads, with the US region contributing the highest 16 million.
