ByteDance's game business will recruit more than 1,000 people in 2020 to meet the research and development needs of multiple game product lines, head of the company's game business Yan Shou said today.
This is the first time ByteDance has disclosed the progress in game business where Chinese technology giant Tencent is the dominant player.
Yan said: "We are very optimistic about the direction of the game and will continue to invest patiently. The game is the content industry. As long as you have patience, the content industry is difficult to be monopolized."
The game business is a long-term business direction set by ByteDance. In 2015, ByteDance began to investigate the situation of the game industry, preparing for entering the game industry. At that time, the person in charge of the investigation was strictly granted.
According to people familiar with the matter, ByteDance has been preparing for three years from research to the start of related businesses. Regarding the gaming business, ByteDance's internal consensus is, "Long-term optimism, continuous investment, not accounting for short-term gains and losses."
Beginning this year, ByteDance has increased its efforts in self-developed game development and overseas game distribution. Including "My Kung Fu Special Bull", which reached the top of the free list of the Japanese App Store games on March 3; the sports beta game "Blood Street Basket" officially tested on March 12; the equally popular casual game "Love Falling in Love" "Wait.
At present, the number of ByteDance game business has exceeded 1,000, and ByteDance will invest in the game business for a long time. As soon as the first half of the year, ByteDance's self-developed game may be launched.
