On January 1, 2020, Huawei's server operating system EulerOS was officially open sourced and rebranded as openEuler. The open-source community is enriching and growing, and Huawei Kunpeng's ecology has been greatly promoted.
On April 17, the openEuler community held the first openEuler Virtual Summit 2020 online to share the latest industry progress with the computing industry and discuss the new version of the technical plan.
The openEuler team stated that the openEuler community will adhere to the concept of "co-building, sharing, and co-governance" to create the best operating system for diverse computing scenarios while encouraging global developers to put forward new ideas on the openEuler platform to accelerate the innovation and development of the computing industry.
Keynote speaker Jiang Dayong said that openEuler is not only a Linux distribution of Huawei but also an open-source community. It is an innovative platform, and all developers, partners, and open source enthusiasts can participate together.
At present, many operating system manufacturers have participated in the openEuler community and actively contributed their own power, including iSoft Infrastructure Software Co., Ltd, Kirin Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Software Institute, and Tuo Linsi, etc., have all released commercial releases based on openEuler.
Among them, iSoft contributes its leading Mate-Desktop desktop project to the openEuler community, and is responsible for the community infrastructure construction, GTK4 Porting, Wayland Porting and code review of the project;
Kylin software introduces enterprise-level virtualization solution oVirt and lightweight desktop project UKUI into the openEuler community;
The Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will encourage more developers to participate in the openEuler community through the "Open Source Software Supply Chain Lighting Project".
In addition, upstream and downstream of the industry chain are also participating in openEuler.
Tsinghua Tongfang has invested more than 200 senior experts to participate in the research and development of multi-core heterogeneous computing. Nine major production bases across the country also provide capacity support for a diverse computing ecosystem.
Tsinghua Tongfang has two major R&D centers in Beijing and Shenzhen to support the work related to ecological adaptation and has now achieved support for openEuler 20.03 LTS and commercial distributions.
On March 27, Huawei Developer Conference HDC 2020, Huawei officially announced the launch of openEuler 20.3 LTS operating system, which is also a commercial release of openEuler. Any partner can get the LTS version for free and commercialize it.
Hou Jinlong, President of Huawei Cloud&AI BG, revealed that currently Huawei developers have reached 1.6 million, and will attract 5 million developers to support Huawei's hardware and software platforms in the next five years.
