Huawei has jointly proposed with China Unicom, China Telecom and other operators to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to adopt a new core network technology and new standard "New IP" to reconstruct the Internet, according to multiple media reports.
In response to this, during the media Q&A session of Huawei's 2019 Annual Report conference held this week, Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun said: New IP is just a purely technical topic. Don't politicize New IP from the beginning.
The current IP technology began in 1969, and the protocol was finalized in 1978. It has been more than 50 years and has achieved great success.
The original IP technology focused on connecting computers around the world, mainly in the office field; later it extended to the mobile Internet, which can connect all mobile phones.
For so many years, traditional IP technology has been unable to meet a series of requirements of the rapidly developing Industrial Internet for low latency and security.
"The goal of 5G is to meet the growing consumer demand for mobile broadband and further meet the industry-oriented low-latency and huge-connection Internet of Things needs. Therefore, New IP is the same. In addition to meeting mobile Internet and office needs, It also needs to meet the needs of the Industrial Internet, such as low latency, security and other needs. "Xu Zhijun said.
He added:
I took the name New IP. Since 5G was being researched at that time, 5G was called New Radio. I think the future of IP is similar to the future mission of 5G. Why not call it New IP?
New Radio corresponding to New IP, that is, corresponding 5G.
New IP is still a research topic until now. Huawei's IP experts are also studying and discussing with scientists and engineers around the world.
Now IP experts in various countries including Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Spain and other countries are free to participate in research and innovation, hoping to jointly solve the future-oriented problems of IP networks, so that New IP can meet the needs of traditional IP. To further meet the needs of the Industrial Internet.
With regard to various speculations outside the world, Xu Zhijun once again reiterated: "New IP is only a purely technical subject. Do not politicize New IP from the beginning."
He said:
Don't think that the experts have so many unspeakable purposes. Everyone just does free research and research in order to solve the future-oriented problems of IP. It is not as complicated as imagined, and not as many political issues as imagined. The technical topics of research are politicized.
