The upcoming Windows 10 Version 2004 (20H1) feature update will fix the problem of excessive disk and CPU usage caused by Windows Search Indexer.
In the latest preview version of Windows 10 Build 19592 released today, it can be confirmed that Microsoft is making more detailed improvements to Windows Search Indexer, which can perform file indexing faster by optimizing logic.
The indexer frequently scans new files and applications on your computer. During the scanning process, CPU and disk usage may increase, and it may also lead to 100% usage on low-end hardware.
In the Windows 10 Build 19592 update, Microsoft adjusted Windows Search to suspend the indexing process when you use the device. The company says that it has improved its algorithm for automatically finding index file times.
Windows Search will also limit the number of times it can index files for content that does not affect search results.
Although these improvements will come in the second quarter of this year, Microsoft also introduced a new algorithm for Windows search in the Windows 10 2004 update.
The new algorithm detects overuse and other performance issues and limits search indexing activity to prevent the system from slowing down.
In addition, Microsoft plans to reduce the variety of colors in different areas of the tiled interface in the start menu, thereby simplifying the display and making the start menu easier to display applications.
Microsoft highlights this in its promotional video, as well as showing some changes in spacing in dynamic magnets.
The built-in Windows 10 applications are gradually being updated with new colored icons.
