Microsoft Windows 10 2004 (Windows 10 20H1 feature update) will add the second version of Windows Subsystem for Linux WSL2.
Microsoft is currently making changes to WSL2 to improve its "serviceability."
Slow Ring testers are currently available with Windows 10 2004 new beta version 19041.153, which includes changes to WSL2.
Microsoft officials said in an updated blog post today that the kernel of the Windows Linux subsystem can be kept up to date in the future.
However, currently users still need to install the Linux kernel manually, and it is expected that users will receive subsequent updates that include automatic installation and service features in the future.
WSL enables developers to run Linux environments directly on Windows 10 and Windows Server, including most command-line tools, utilities, and applications.
When Microsoft first introduced WSL in Windows 10 in 2016, WSL was a Linux interface designed in collaboration with Canonical.
But Microsoft has been busy rebuilding WSL with WSL 2 to give it a Linux kernel written by Microsoft that runs in a lightweight virtual machine based on a Hyper V subset.
