2020 is expected to become the first year of mass production and listing of mobile phones with fingerprint scanner under LCD screens. It is optimistic that this year's shipments are expected to exceed 6 million units, market research agency CINNO Research said in a report released today.
CINNO Research estimates that this number will grow rapidly to 52.7 million units in 2021.
By 2024, shipments of mobile phones with fingerprint scanner under LCD screens are expected to grow to about 190 million units, the report said.
At present, mobile phones supporting screen fingerprint technology in the market have light sensors or ultrasonic sensors located below the screen, which results in that they can only be implemented on OLED screens. The LCD screen has been unable to use screen fingerprints due to the obstruction of the backlight module.
Earlier today, Lu Weibing, general manager of Redmi brand, announced today that Redmi has successfully combined LCD screens and fingerprint sensors.
Lu Weibing said that Redmi's innovative use of infrared high-transmittance film material has greatly improved the transmittance of infrared light that could not pass through the screen.
