Lu Weibing, general manager of Redmi brand, announced today that Redmi has successfully combined LCD screens and fingerprint sensors.
Lu Weibing said that Redmi's innovative use of infrared high-transmittance film material has greatly improved the transmittance of infrared light that could not pass through the screen.
The infrared transmitter below the screen emits infrared light. After the fingerprint is reflected, it penetrates the screen and hits the fingerprint sensor to complete the fingerprint verification, which solves the LCD screen fingerprint problem.
Lu Weibing said that the Redmi R&D team has overcome the difficulty of using screen fingerprints on LCD screens before and said that the technology has mass productivity.
At present, mobile phones supporting screen fingerprint technology in the market have light sensors or ultrasonic sensors located below the screen, which results in that they can only be implemented on OLED screens. The LCD screen has been unable to use screen fingerprints due to the obstruction of the backlight module.
