Apple's ultra-wideband (UWB)-based tracking device Tags will start shipping in the summer of 2020 and by the end of this year shipments will reach "tens of millions," Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a report released today.
Tags is a hardware that has surfaced due to software leaks. Kuo claimed that this ultra-broadband-based tracking device would arrive in the summer of 2020.
In a discussion about Apple supplier USI, Ming-Chi Kuo expects USI to deliver parts for Apple tracking device Tags from the second or third quarter of 2020. Kuo didn't mention the name of "Apple Tags" directly, but its description of the product is very close to this device.
Kuo wrote: "We believe that by providing short-range measurement capabilities, UWB Tag devices will enhance the iOS search function and the user experience of augmented reality applications." Previously, some people speculated that "Apple Tags" and Apple's "Find My The feature is closely related, and it will use ultra-wideband to locate the tag for iPhone 11 users, which is more accurate than the current use of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Earlier reports also pointed out an augmented reality window that uses a virtual red balloon and rope to overlay the camera window, showing the expected position of the label.
Ming-Chi Kuo believes that USI will be the main supplier of single in-line package (SIP) for Apple Tags equipment, and the company will be responsible for 60% of the supply tasks.
Kuo's previous guess was that Apple's tracking device Tags will be released in the first six months of 2020. However, the current outbreak of a coronavirus may cause some delays in manufacturing.
