Affected by the sudden outbreak of novel coronavirus, China's mobile phone shipments will decline sharply by 40% year-on-year in January-February. For the first quarter, the domestic market is expected to experience a year-on-year decline of over 30%, IDC said.
According to the report, China's mobile phone shipments for the full year 2020 will fall 4% year-on-year.
In addition, the online market share of the mobile phone market in 2020 will further increase. The proportion of online channels will increase significantly in the first quarter of 2020 and in the first half of the year, and online consumption habits may spread and continue in the future.
The ability to adjust the supply chain is under test, and the near-term and long-term product plans may need to be adjusted.
From February to March, it is the final product release phase of many domestic manufacturers and the final test phase before mass production. It is also the commissioning phase of planned product releases in the first half of the year.
With the changes in the product plan in the first half of the year, product planning in the medium and long term may also need to be adjusted.
Consumer budgets are facing further tightening, and small and medium players in the mobile phone industry need to recover after the impact. Small and medium-sized players in the mobile phone industry, especially retail channel partners, will face shocks or even shuffle during the epidemic.
IDC said that after the epidemic in the future, manufacturers that can effectively assist the affected retail channels and other partners to recover and rebuild will have more opportunities in the medium and long term.
From the perspective of 2019, the overall market shipments for the year were about 370 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 7.5%.
In terms of manufacturers, Huawei ranked first with 140 million units sold, occupying a market share of 38.3%, a year-on-year increase of 33.9%, and became the only mobile phone brand in TOP5 to achieve growth.
The second to fifth are Vivo (66.5 million units, down 12.5% year-on-year), OPPO (62.8 million units, down 20.4% year-on-year), Xiaomi (40 million units, down 21.2% year-on-year), and Apple (32.8 million units, down 9.7%).
