Alibaba Cloud announced on January 29 that during the pneumonia epidemic in Wuhan, its AI computing power will be available to public research institutions around the world for free to accelerate the development of new pneumonia drugs and vaccines.
At present, the China CDC has successfully isolated the virus of the new coronavirus, and vaccine development and drug screening are still ongoing intensely.
During the development of new drugs and vaccines, a large amount of data analysis, large-scale literature screening and scientific supercomputing work are required.
Alibaba Cloud said that it can provide powerful AI computing power for this purpose, support viral gene sequencing, new drug development, protein screening and other work, and help scientific research institutions shorten the development cycle.
Currently, GHDDI, a global health drug research and development center, is cooperating with Alibaba Cloud to develop artificial intelligence drug research and development and big data platforms for data mining and integration of historical drug research and development of coronaviruses such as SARS/MERS.
They open up relevant preclinical and clinical data resources, calculate targets and molecular properties of drugs, and follow up on the latest scientific developments of new coronaviruses, and make them available to the scientific community and the public in real time to provide data support for scientific research on new coronaviruses.
The scope of Alibaba Cloud's open AI computing power support is as follows:
- Use molecular dynamics (MD: Molecular Dynamics) HPC applications to calculate viruses, proteins, drug structures, target action simulations and design drug screening experiments, and use QD quantum dynamics to do drug research-free of charge Aliyun High Performance calculation, SCC supercomputing cluster and CPU cluster;
- Extract virus DNA from infected plants and infected persons, and perform genomic calculation and genomics calculation—Alibaba Cloud Supercomputing support is provided for free;
- Scientific research institutions analyze and screen large-scale global literatures-provide Alibaba Cloud universal platform support for free;
- Do virtual screening on the basis of MD, MM, and QD-free Alibaba Cloud AI platform and cloud supercomputing support.
