According to a GfK report, in India's huge offline smartphone market, Vivo’s smartphone sales surpassed Samsung for the first time in November last year, marking the brand’s biggest achievements in the Indian market in less than a decade.
Vivo's offline market share rose from 23% in October 2019 to 24.7% one month later. During the same period, Samsung shares dropped from 24.7% to 21.6%, and Xiaomi rose from 20.8% to 21.5%.
The other big brands in the offline market are OPPO and Realme. The market share in the first two months dropped from 16.5% to 16.3%, and the latter rose from 5.7% to 7%. It is worth noting in the data that Samsung's market share dropped sharply from 35.8% in November 2018 to 21.6% one year later.
For the longest time, Samsung is India's largest smartphone supplier. Compared with Chinese mobile phone manufacturers such as Xiaomi and vivo, Samsung has stayed in India for a longer time because it also deals in household appliances and other products, so it is a household name.
Meanwhile, Vivo has achieved significant growth in recent years and is focusing on the offline market to drive this growth. This helped the brand grow into one of India's three major smartphone manufacturers.
According to IDC market data since November 2019, Xiaomi led the entire market with a market share of 30.4% in November 2019. Samsung ranked second with a market share of 21.1%, while vivo ranked third with a market share of 16.9%.
