Huawei recently updated its EMUI for overseas users to add the recently released Huawei Mobile Services Core (HMS Core). In addition to the system upgrade, Huawei also updated the "Terms and Conditions" page, which shows the first traces of personalized system-wide advertising, according to MySmartPrice.
Huawei discussed on this page the "Huawei Advertising" platform that may be added to all devices, including those that do not have access to Google Play services.
It lists some important points and clarifies some of the main points for Huawei advertising:
- The personal data used for ads personalisation is retained for one year from the time of collection.
- The data is stored in the data centres located in Hong Kong (China) and Singapore.
- If the user gives their consent, Huawei Ads will also collect and process the user’s location information (via GPS) to provide “geographically relevant” advertisements
- In addition, your data may also be processed by out local customer service centres located, for example, in Egypt, Mexico, India, South Korea, and Pakistan, if you are currently residing in any of these countries
Of course, it's hard to say when Huawei will implement the ad, but the terms and conditions page clearly indicates the plan to push Huawei ads.
MySmartPrice also noted that Huawei might not be planning to push system ads into its devices right now, but Huawei Ads makes it possible for advertisers to display ads via system UI if and when Huawei decides to show ads on its phones.
The company might not be in a position to take that step yet, considering its faltering market share in markets outside of China, the report said.
If this becomes true, Huawei will be the latest Chinese smartphone manufacture to add advertising into the operating system their smartphones run on.
On January 1, Realme announced that it will place ads in the ColorOS to help maintain a "healthy and sustainable business model" in the future.

Realme is a popular Android smartphone manufacturer, especially in India. In 2019, the company achieved 400% year-on-year growth, ranking fourth in India, behind Xiaomi, Samsung and vivo.
The Realme smartphone will receive an update in early 2020, which will bring in a content recommendation system, the Realme team said in a community forum.
The move follows Xiaomi, which was previously criticized by users for the presence of advertisements in MIUI.
Muralikrishnan B, chief operating officer of Xiaomi India, once said, "We will continue to focus on Internet services, yes, because this is part of our core business model." He further cited high-tech leaders such as Facebook and Google, saying these Technology companies have also established their own corporate advertising business models.
Ironically, Realme had mocked Xiaomi for advertising in MIUI earlier last year and even used it as a selling point for Realme 3.
