Realme announced that it will place ads in the ColorOS to help maintain a "healthy and sustainable business model" in the future.
Realme is a popular Android smartphone manufacturer, especially in India. In 2019, the company achieved 400% year-on-year growth, ranking fourth in India, behind Xiaomi, Samsung and vivo.
The Realme smartphone will receive an update in early 2020, which will bring in a content recommendation system, the Realme team said in a community forum.
This change will affect devices running ColorOS 6 and ads on Realme devices will appear in two different locations, the first in the Phone Manager application and the second in Security after installing a new application Check "page.
These ads are enabled by default, but Realme users can disable them by going to Settings> Other Settings> Content Recommendations and turning off Features.
The move follows Xiaomi, which was previously criticized by users for the presence of advertisements in MIUI.
Muralikrishnan B, chief operating officer of Xiaomi India, once said, "We will continue to focus on Internet services, yes, because this is part of our core business model." He further cited high-tech leaders such as Facebook and Google, saying these Technology companies have also established their own corporate advertising business models.
Ironically, Realme had mocked Xiaomi for advertising in MIUI earlier last year and even used it as a selling point for Realme 3.
