The new Nintendo Switch will begin mass production at the end of the first quarter of 2020 and will be released in the middle of the year, Digitimes reported on Wednesday citing sources related to the upstream supply chain of Nintendo consoles.
The new Switch may be the rumored Switch Pro which may use the Tegra X1 + processor. NVIDIA claims that the Tegra X1 + is 25% faster than the X1, but benchmark tests show that it is about 5-10% faster.
In addition to performance improvements, other features of the Tegra X1 + may appeal to Switch gamers, such as Dolby HDR support and the chip's 4K pixel multiplication technology may allow Nintendo to promote Switch Pro as a 4K console.
The new Switch's shell will be "substantially changed" from the original plastic material to magnesium aluminum alloy die-casting, enhancing the metallic feel, according to previous reports.
