OPPO founder and CEO Chen Mingyong said on Tuesday that mobile phone companies will not be making only phones in the future, OPPO is thinking about making cars.
At the OPPO INNO Day Conference held in Shenzhen on December 10, OPPO showed a variety of products including smart watches, smart headsets, 5G CPE, AR glasses, as well as innovative technological achievements in the fields of flash charging, 5G, imaging, and software optimization.
Chen Mingyong said that with the implementation of 5G commercial and artificial intelligence, the Internet of Everything is near. But connectivity is only the foundation, and convergence is the future.
The integration of technological services, organizational integration, cultural integration, and the integration of science, technology, and arts and humanities will be an important part of the integration of all things, he said.
"In fact, OPPO is not just a mobile phone company. Smart phones are just a carrier for OPPO service users. In the future, it will not only be OPPO, but there will be no more mobile phone companies in the entire industry."
Chen Mingyong also said that the future positioning of OPPO will be a technology company, not just a mobile phone company, and he has been thinking about making cars.
"We will do what we are good at, rather than build our own cars. If the auto industry is not doing well in the next ten years, OPPO may do cars, but at present it is not possible." He said.
In 2019, OPPO's total investment in research and development was 10 billion yuan. Chen Mingyong said that OPPO will invest 50 billion in research and development budget in the next three years.
OPPO vice president and president of the institute Liu Chang revealed in his speech that OPPO is expected to commercially launch smart watches, smart wireless headsets and 5G CPE products in the first quarter of 2020.
