Indonesia is fastest growing smartphone market in Q3, led by OPPO and Xiaomi-CnTechPost

Among the top ten global smartphone markets, Indonesia had the fastest growth in the third quarter, with shipments up 29% year-on-year, according to a recent Canalys report.

Indonesia is the fourth-largest smartphone market in the world. Canalys analyst Matthew Xie said that Indonesia has huge growth potential due to its "huge young population" and relatively low smartphone penetration.

Indonesia โ€™s shipments in the third quarter reached 11.5 million units. A 29% growth is much higher compared with the second quarter when shipments increased by 10%.

Nicole Peng, vice president of mobile business at Canalys, said, "The market is expected to achieve strong growth in the next 12 months due to the marketing promotion of major suppliers and rapid product updates."

OPPO maintained its leading position for the second consecutive quarter, occupying a 22.7% market share, after the company's sales volume rose 47% year-on-year to 2.6 million units. Indonesia is the company's second largest market outside China, accounting for 8% of its global shipments.

Matthew Xie said that OPPO has actively increased its investment in offline channel development, expanded its local sales team, and expanded the geographic scope of retail stores.

Xiaomi โ€™s shipments increased by 22% to 2.5 million units, accounting for 21.6% of the market share, surpassing Samsung โ€™s 2.4 million units, an increase of 16%. Vivo still ranks fourth, with shipments of 1.9 million units, an increase of 74%, and market share growth of more than 4 percentage points to 16.6%.
