With 5G adoption gaining traction fast in China, 6G is on the horizon and there is currently an initial timetable for it.
Yang Fengyi, one of the expert panel members of Chinaโs 6G development, said recently the network speed for 6G will be 10 to 100 times that of 5G and its commercial use could be expected around 2030.
The Ministry of Science and Technology of China together with five other ministries recently held a meeting for launching the research and development of 6G in Beijing, according to information on the ministry's website earlier this month.
A work group and an expert group for pushing ahead with the R&D of 6G technology was established during the meeting, with former consisting mainly of government officials and the latter consisting of 37 experts from colleges, research institutes and companies.
The establishment of the work group and expert group marks the official launch of 6G R&D in China, the ministry said.
Yang said 5G has expanded user cases beyond mobile phones and computers, when 6G comes there will be more room for imagination. He said:
You can imagine connecting your body to the internet, by which means your health conditions will be uploaded to your personal medical center. Base on analysis of those data, you will get suggestions for daily life, work and entertainment.
In the 6G era, there will be internet of people, internet of things, and interconnect between people and things.
