Xiaomi announced on Monday that the Mi CC9 Pro with a 108 MP camera will be launched on November 5.
Xiaomi unveiled the Mi CC9 series back in June and the Pro version has been in the rumor mill for the past month. Late last night Beijing time Xiaomi teased a new C series phone will be launched today, triggering speculation the Mi CC9 Pro will be released today.
But as it turned out, the company only announced a release date for the new device and other details except for a 108 MP camera and Penta-camera setup were still unknown.
The CC series may sound unfamiliar to many. At the beginning of this year, Xiaomi announced strategic cooperation with Meitu, which is known for its selfie-centric smartphones.
After absorbing Meitu’s smartphone business , Xiaomi cut off some of its favorite smartphone lines and brought a new one called CC. The first models of this series are already out and they have become quite popular.
Although Xiaomi has yet to release the device’s specs, there have been reports that Xiaomi has a total of 4 smartphones with the 108MP camera sensor in the making, with the codenames “Tucana”, “Draco”, “Umi” and “Cmi”.
Now, the Geekbench has played host to a Xiaomi device codenamed “Tucana”, triggering speculation the device is expected to launch as the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro with 108 MP camera.
According to the Geekbench entry, it will come equipped with the Snapdragon 730G SoC, 6GB RAM, while running Android 9 UI-based MIUI operating system.
Of course all is focused on the cameras. The CC9 Pro will come fitted with a total of five cameras, stacked up in a vertical manner. It has two dual-LED flashes, with indication that the telephoto camera is capable of up to “5X Optical” Zoom.
Xiaomi has yet to detail the camera specs. However, the 108MP sensor is likely to be assisted by an ultra-wide camera, and a 3D ToF camera. There are chances it will get a macro camera, or a depth sensor.
In order to give people a glimpse of its capability, Xiaomi has revealed camera samples of Chinese actor Roy Wang (also known as Wang Yuan) taken by the device on Weibo.
As with the front panel, a slashleaks image showed the device has a curved front screen and water-drop notch.
Besides the phone, Xiaomi also confirmed that a Xiaomi watch and the Mi TV 5 will be released on November 5. It’s believed that the wearable could be the firm’s first Wear OS smartwatch, dubbed the Mi Watch.
