TikTok will spend €1 billion to build a second data center in Lahti, Finland, further expanding its digital infrastructure footprint in Europe.

This is the company's second billion-euro data center in the country, cementing Finland's position as a key technological hub for the firm.

The new facility is a key component of the company's €12 billion ($14 billion) Project Clover, according to a TikTok announcement on Wednesday.

The initiative aims to protect the data of more than 200 million European users, ensuring that massive amounts of data can be securely stored locally in Europe, the company said in a statement.

The move follows a €1 billion investment announced in 2025 for its first Finnish data center in Kouvola, a project that is currently progressing as planned.

To ensure data security, UK cybersecurity firm NCC Group will conduct independent oversight and verification of these European facilities. This year, NCC Group's work on the project also received an industry security award.

Finland's digital infrastructure, clean energy, and workforce make it a natural choice for expanding European operations, according to the company, which is owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance.

The investment will boost the regional economy, create numerous jobs, and support the growth of the local digital ecosystem, the mayor of Lahti said.

ByteDance's Volcano Engine has surpassed 100 trillion daily AI token calls, becoming the third company globally to reach this scale.
