China shipped 28.676 million cell phones in July, up 28.6 percent year-over-year and 11.7 percent from the previous month, according to a report released Thursday by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
The number of 5G cell phone shipments in July was 22.834 million units, up 64.1 percent year-over-year and 15.4 percent from the previous month, accounting for 79.6 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period.
China's overall cell phone shipments from January to July totaled 203 million units, up 15.6 percent year-over-year, according to the report.
The number of 5G cell phone shipments from January to July was 151 million, up 94.3 percent year-over-year, accounting for 74.3 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period. By the end of July 2021, 5G cell phone shipments accumulated 327 million units.
China listed 26 new models of cell phones in July, down 38.1 percent year-over-year, including 11 5G phones, down 38.9 percent year-over-year, accounting for 42.3 percent of the number of new models of cell phones listed in the same period, the report said.
China listed a total of 239 new models from January to July, down 6.6 percent year-over-year, including 121 5G phones, down 4.0 percent year-over-year and accounting for 50.6 percent of the number of new models listed for cell phones in the same period.
Chinese brands shipped 25.887 million cell phones in July, up 24.9 percent year-over-year, accounting for 90.3 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period.
Local brands listed 24 new models, down 36.8 percent year-over-year, accounting for 92.3 percent of the number of new models of cell phones listed in the same period, according to the report.
Chinese brands shipped a total of 181 million cell phones from January to July, up 13.3 percent year-over-year, accounting for 89.4 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period. The total number of newly listed models was 218, down 6.8 percent year-over-year, accounting for 91.2 percent of the number of new cell phone models listed in the same period.
China's smartphone shipments in July were 27.767 million units, up 30.6 percent year-over-year, accounting for 96.8 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period.
China's smartphone shipments from January to July totaled 199 million units, up 16.8 percent year-over-year, accounting for 98.0 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period.
China listed 21 new smartphone models in July, down 34.4 percent year-over-year, accounting for 80.8 percent of the number of new cell phone models listed in the same period.
The total number of new smartphone models listed in China from January to July was 196, down 1.0 percent year-over-year, accounting for 82.0 percent of the number of new models listed in the same period.
