China shipped 25.66 million cell phones in June, down 10.4 percent year-over-year and up 11.7 percent from May, according to data released Tuesday by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), a government think tank.
Overall cell phone shipments in China were 174 million units in the first half of the year, up 13.7 percent from a year earlier, the data showed.
In June, 32 new cell phone models were launched in China, down 33.3 percent year-over-year. From January to June, 213 new cell phone models were launched, down 0.5 percent year-over-year
5G cell phone shipments in June were 19.79 million units, up 13.0 percent year-over-year and up 18.2 percent from May, accounting for 77.1 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period.
The number of new 5G cell phone models launched in June was 20, down 16.7 percent year-over-year, accounting for 62.5 percent of the number of new cell phone models launched in the same period.
China's 5G cell phone shipments from January to June were 128 million units, up 100.9 percent year-over-year and accounting for 73.4 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period. The number of new models launched was 110, up 1.9 percent year-over-year, accounting for 51.6 percent of the number of new models launched during the same period.
China's local brands shipped 24.59 million cell phones in June, down 9.9 percent year-over-year and accounting for 95.8 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period. And a total of 28 new models were launched, down 40.4 percent year-over-year and accounting for 87.5 percent of the number of new cell phone models launched in the same period.
China's local brand cell phone shipments from January to June amounted to 155 million units, up 11.5 percent year-over-year, accounting for 89.2 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period. The number of newly launched models was 194, down 1.0 percent year-over-year, accounting for 91.1 percent of the number of new models launched during the same period.
Smartphones shipped 25.187 million units in June, down 9.1 percent year-over-year, accounting for 98.1 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period. A total of 30 new models were launched, down 18.9 percent year-over-year, accounting for 93.8 percent of the number of new cell phone models launched in the same period.
Smartphones shipped 171 million units from January to June, up 14.8 percent year-over-year, accounting for 98.2 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period. The number of new models on the market was 175, up 5.4 percent year-over-year, accounting for 82.2 percent of the number of new models on the market in the same period.
