Smartphone shipments in China reached 92.4 million units in the first quarter, up 27 percent year-on-year and back to the levels seen in the first quarter of 2019, according to a report released by Canalys on April 29.
The report showed that Vivo took the crown in China, with shipments of 21.6 million units, up 79 percent year on year.
OPPO ranked second with 20.6 million units shipped.
Huawei slipped to third with 14.9 million units shipped, and Honor, which became independent from the company, came in sixth with nearly 5 million units shipped.
Xiaomi and Apple were fourth and fifth, shipping 13.5 million units and 12 million units, respectively.
Amber Liu, an analyst at Canalys, said the leading players in China's smartphone market are racing to the top, with an unusually high number of shipments this quarter compared to Q1 or even Q4 of 2020.
