China's January phone shipments up 92.8% YoY to 40.12 million units

China's overall cell phone shipments rose 92.8 percent year-on-year to 40.12 million units in January 2021, according to a report.

The report, "Analysis of China's Mobile Phone Market Operation in January 2021," was released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology on February 9.

Due to Covid-19, China's cell phone shipments were only 20.81 million units in January last year and fell to 6.34 million units in the following month.

5G phone shipments in China in January 2021 were 27.27 million units, accounting for 68% of cell phone shipments in the same period, compared to 26.3% in January last year.

In January 2021, local brands saw cell phone shipments of 33.726 million units, up 84.1% year-on-year, accounting for 84.1% of cell phone shipments in the same period.

A total of 34 local models were launched, up 3% year-on-year, accounting for 85% of the number of new cell phone models launched in the same period.
