A total of 90 Chinese technology companies have applied to prepare for the establishment of a national committee to promote integrated circuit standardization, according to an announcement issued by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on January 28.
These companies include well-known Chinese companies such as HiSilicon Technologies, UNISOC, Gigadevice Semiconductor, Yangtze Memory, and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation.
This means China is starting to systematically promote IC standardization, The Economic Observer said, citing a longtime IC standardization advocate.
He said many international technical standards organizations were unable to work with several Chinese IC companies after they were included in the US entity list. This has made the country and the IC industry aware of the importance of active participation in international standardization work, and the lack of standards has been one of the industry's shortcomings.
The goal of the committee is to build a clear framework of IC standards system, based on the industry chain, covering the upstream materials and equipment, the manufacturing process of design, manufacturing and testing, IC packaging, and product applications.
The committee is also responsible for the international standardization of IEC/TC47/SC47A integrated circuits, SC47D circuit packaging, and SC47F microelectromechanical systems, and actively carries out international exchanges and cooperation of standardization in the field of integrated circuits.
In the framework of the standards system, an area that has been mentioned many times--MEMS technology. The above-mentioned person believes that this is because the process of the technology is highly similar to the integrated circuit manufacturing process, so the technology is included in the work of the Committee.
MEMS technology involves a wide range of applications and mostly high-end processes, including automotive sensors, LiDAR.
