Huawei wants more and more car companies and models to have access to HMS for Car, Zhang Pingan, president of Huawei's consumer business cloud service, said in a recent media interview.
Huawei has now partnered with Volvo and is in talks to partner with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Hongqi and BYD, he told Sina Tech, adding that HMS for Car seamlessly connects to vehicles using Huawei's mobile ecosystem. "It turns out that people don't think about making them connected."
Zhang said that Huawei is consolidating its automotive-related businesses internally, and that Huawei doesn't build cars, but rather helps car companies make them better.
Zhang admits that, as previously reported in the media, Huawei has merged its BU that makes automotive components into its consumer business, which is responsible for things like in-vehicle radar and information systems.
"We don't make cars, but help car companies to make cars better, we make incremental parts suppliers for cars," Zhang said.
