Despite sanctions by the US government, Huawei shipped 4.9 million units of tables in the third quarter of 2020, up 32.9 percent year-on-year, according to a recent IDC report.
However, due to the lack of Google's mobile services, its tablet lineup's ability to secure the right parts supply remains an issue, the report said, adding that the outlook for Huawei's tablet business remains uncertain.
According to the report, the global tablet market grew 24.9 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2020, with shipments reaching 47.6 million units.
The tablet market is being driven by user demand for basic computing and large-screen devices, including those aimed at facilitating remote work, study, and leisure, due to Covide-19 restrictions.
Other categories such as dining, entertainment and travel declined during the epidemic compared to the rise in consumer spending on technology.
Apple once again led the tablet market by shipping 13.9 million units in the third quarter of 2020, with revenue up 17.4% year-over-year.
The iPad (2019) maintained the largest share of shipments. The latest iPad (2020) recorded significant shipments despite being released late in the quarter.
Samsung finished second again with 9.4 million units shipped and 89.2 percent year-over-year growth. Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S7 + in Q3, the world's first 5G tablet, making it one of the first tablet vendors to adopt 5G.
Amazon slipped to third place in the third quarter of 2020, with shipments totaling 5.4 million units.
Amazon's recently announced 8-inch tablet had the largest share of shipments in Q3 '20, followed by the 10.1-inch tablet.
Amazon's kids' tablets also maintained strong momentum on 8-inch and 10-inch tablets.
Lenovo ranked fifth in the quarter, up 62.4 percent year-over-year, with 4.1 million units shipped.
Lenovo's tablet tablets performed well, driven by affordable tablets, which is critical in the current situation.
