Alibaba on November 2 announced the launch of the Central China headquarters project in Wuhan, Hubei province, and the park is expected to be completed in 2026.
Alibaba said the project, which is located in Wuhan's Wuchang District and has an above-ground construction area of about 300,000 square meters, will not only house Alibaba and enterprises in its ecosystem but will also bring together new retail and other businesses in the future.
"Thank you Wuhan for giving Alibaba a warm home", Alibaba Group Chairman and CEO Zhang Yong said at the groundbreaking event, adding that "we would like to leverage the digital infrastructure capabilities Alibaba has accumulated over the past 20 years to fully assist Wuhan's economic development and modern governance ."
He added that Alibaba's central China headquarters is located in Wuhan because of the trust built up through long-standing cooperation, but also because of the strategic advantages in digital economy development that Wuhan has shown as the economic, technological, and talent highland of central China.
