At today's Huawei Mate 40 series launch event in China, He Gang, president of Huawei's consumer business mobile phone product line, said that in addition to the 5 million new cars that will come pre-installed with Huawei HiCar, Huawei will also roll out an in-car smart screen for older models.

After installation, users can sync the app experience on their phones to the in-car smart screen, he said.

Huawei HiCar currently supports more than 150 cars and adds multiple scenarios to the experience in the car.

Huawei didn't mention much about the launch, but a blogger previously claimed that Huawei will show further details of the in-car smart screen on November 5.

Huawei Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu revealed that Huawei has already worked with more than 20 OEMs and 150 vehicles on HiCar, and plans to have more than 5 million vehicles pre-installed with HiCar in 2021, such as the Volvo XC40, which will be equipped with the latest version of Huawei's HiCar system.

Previous media reports have said that the Huawei HiCar smart screen is equipped with Huawei Hong Meng OS 2.0. It can be placed in the car and is similar in size to a tablet.

The device aggregates most of the Huawei smartphone's features suitable for car mobility scenarios, such as listening to music, watching videos, making phone calls, surfing the web and playing games.

Huawei says it will invest $500 million in cars this year, not considering profits in short term
