Deepin v20 released after months of beta testing

China-made popular Linux distribution Deepin today released the stable version 20 (1002) after five months of beta testing.

Deepin 20 comes with a unified design style and redesigns the desktop environment and applications, bringing a brand new visual look.

The underlying repository is upgraded to Debian 10.5, and the system installation supports dual kernels - Kernel 5.4 and Kernel 5.7, which greatly improve system stability and compatibility.

It also provides a new launcher, the latest preinstalled applications, enhanced fingerprint support, and system security, all of which ensure better user experiences.

In April, the first Deepin v20 Beta was released and the download package appeared in the official repository.

Here are the main features:

Unified Style DDE

The new design introduces ingenious colorful icons, fresh graphics interface, natural and smooth animation effects, unique rounded-corner windows, and an exquisite multitask view. All of them build a fashion and user-friendly desktop environment.

DDE supports light and dark themes, transparency adjustment, color temperature settings, power and battery settings, etc.

Personalized notification management

The upgraded notification settings support playing a sound when the message comes, showing messages on the lock screen, showing messages or not in the notification center, showing message preview, and setting different reminding levels for various applications. Users can customize the settings in order to receive all important messages and avoid unnecessary interruptions.

Dual-kernel system installation

The system installation interface has dual-kernel options - Kernel 5.4 (LTS) and Kernel 5.7 (Stable) and their "Safe Graphics" modes, bringing more options for system installation, and improving overall stability and compatibility, as the latest kernel supports more hardware devices.

Intuitive system installer

The new clear design and interaction of system installer make installation steps easier. Just follow the instructions to install deepin. It provides two methods to create partitions: create them manually as you like, or install deepin on the full disk automatically which supports full disk encryption.

For NIDIVIA cards, the system installer detects them and offers closed-source drivers to be installed.

Convenient app management

The different types of applications in the App Store meet users' various needs in life and work. The features such as one-click update and application filtering are added to the new version, making application management more convenient.

Optimized fingerprint recognition

The new fingerprint features deliver clearer interaction guidance and more accurate scenario prompts. You can use your fingerprint to unlock, log in, verify your identity, and get root permissions. Now a variety of fingerprint readers are supported.
