Tesla is hiring nearly 1,000 workers for its 'new model' at Shanghai plant

Tesla is hiring technicians and operators for its new project and new model at its Shanghai Gigafactory, with a cumulative demand of nearly 1,000 people.

The company's job posting on WeChat on Thursday showed that the jobs are in nine departments, including die-casting workshop, stamping workshop, motor workshop, final assembly workshop, logistics department, and supercharging stations.

Among them, the motor workshop is recruiting 180 production operators, the final assembly workshop is recruiting a total of 370 production operators, the body shop production is recruiting 140 production operators, and the logistics department is recruiting 200 logistics forklift workers, totaling nearly 1,000 people.

In addition, the die-casting workshop and other 11 departments to recruit a number of squad leader, technician positions.

Tesla didn't specify what this new model is, but the job ad is accompanied by a picture of the Model Y at the end, suggesting that the new model is the Model Y.

This is the second time this year that Tesla's Shanghai factory has conducted large-scale hiring.

Previously on July 25, the Lingang Recruitment WeChat showed that Tesla also plans to hire 600 production operators for die-casting, stamping, bodywork, painting, and final assembly in Shanghai.

Tesla also plans to hire 150 quality inspectors responsible for product delivery, 200 logistics-related forklift workers and 20 security guards to maintain security.

Reuters reported on July 28 that two people with knowledge of the hiring plan said the hiring was partly in preparation for the production of the Model Y SUV at the Shanghai plant.

Tesla said in its second-quarter earnings report that the Model Y production line at the Shanghai plant is being built on schedule, with the first deliveries expected in 2021.

In an interview this year, Tesla's vice president said the second phase of the super plant is progressing very smoothly, and construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with the Model Y expected to be ready for mass production in the first quarter of next year.
