Russia is ready to cooperate with Huawei on 5G technology, the Interfax news agency quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying.
In June 2019, Huawei signed an agreement with MTS, Russia's largest telecom company, to develop a 5G network in Russia in 2020.
The previous agreement was signed by Guo Ping, vice chairman and rotating chairman of Huawei's board of directors, and Alexey Kornya, president and chief executive officer of MTS.
MTS said in a statement that the agreement includes "the development of 5G technology and the pilot rollout of 5G networks in 2019 and 2020".
Huawei has been investing heavily in Russia.
In Feburary this year, Huawei announced at a developer event in Russia that it will invest $10 million in the country to foster the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem.
Huawei Russia branch executives said at the event that Huawei welcomes the Russian developer community to actively participate in Huawei's ecological integration, and Huawei will continue to invest to ensure effective joint development.
In March, Russia's largest banks Sberbank and Huawei said that they have formed a strategic partnership to provide cloud computing services to Russian companies.
The move will expand Sberbank's reach into the country's digital economy.
The efforts have seen results.
Russian online smartphone sales rose sharply in the second quarter, with Huawei continuing to hold the top market share.
The country's online smartphone sales rose more than 56 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, with market share reaching an all-time high level of 32 percent, according to a report by market research firm Counterpoint Research.
The growth in sales in the online channel was due to a shift in consumer behavior, which included upgrading devices used for working from home, the report said.
