ByteDance says it's exploring possibility of setting up TikTok HQ outside US

Short-video mobile app TikTok owner ByteDance said today it is indeed exploring the possibility of setting up a TikTok headquarters outside the United States.

The Sun previously reported that ByteDance would move TikTok's headquarters from Beijing to London under a deal approved by British officials.

The report said that ByteDance's founders will soon announce their intention to open an office in London in the near future.

The newspaper also said the move could upset US President Donald Trump, who is considering banning TikTok in the United States.

Microsoft announced on Sunday that it would continue negotiations to acquire TikTok and said it planned to complete negotiations by September 15.

Microsoft's statement comes two days after media reports said that it was interested in acquiring the app. Soon after those reports emerged, US President Trump said that he opposed the idea and would move to ban the app in the US.
