China's online retail sales exceeds 5 trillion yuan in H1

This morning, the National Bureau of Statistics released data on China's economy for the first half of the year.

China's online retail sales in the first half of the year totaled RMB 5.15 trillion, up 7.3% year-on-year and 2.8 percentage points higher than the January to May period, according to data released today by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Among them, online retail sales of physical goods amounted to 4.34trillion yuan, up 14.3%, accounting for 25.2 percent of the total retail sales.

Of the online retail sales of physical goods, food and household goods grew by 38.8 percent and 17.3 percent, respectively, while clothing declined by 2.9 percent.

From January to June, China's total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to RMB 17.22 trillion, down 11.4 percent year-on-year.

Retail sales of consumer goods excluding automobiles amounted to RMB 15.58 trillion, down 10.9%.
