At the end of 2019, Huawei's global workforce totaled 194,000, up from 188,000 at the end of 2018, according to Huawei's latest annual sustainability report.
More than 37,000 of the employees work overseas, accounting for 19 percent. A total of 67 percent of them are hired locally.
About 96,000 of Huawei’s workforce were R&D employees, accounting for 49 percent of the total.
The report noted that Huawei has employees from 157 countries and regions around the world, with employees from 43 ethnic groups in China.
The report said Huawei has continued to attract "top talent" and "talented youngsters" with world-class topics around its business strategy.
The company had stated on June 20 last year that it would recruit 20-30 talented youngsters from around the world, with plans to recruit another 200-300 from around the world by 2020.
In July last year, Huawei announced it was giving eight of its top 2019 students, all of whom hold PhDs, an annual salary of up to 2 million yuan.
