Just two days after India banned 59 apps developed by Chinese companies, Apple and Google have also started complying with the Indian government's order to prevent Indian users from accessing them.
The UC browser, cross-border e-commerce platform Club Factory and other Chinese apps banned in India have been removed from the Apple India App Store, Google India Google Play store.
A Google spokesperson said in a statement that the company evaluated the Indian government's interim order to temporarily block users from accessing these apps on Google Play.
Apple has also taken similar measures to comply with the Indian government order.
A number of app developers, including ByteDance, have voluntarily suspended users' access to their apps in India.
The Indian government has invited executives from these companies to provide them with an opportunity to answer the government's concerns.
TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer said on Wednesday that TikTok complies with Indian privacy and security requirements and looks forward to meeting with multiple stakeholders.
