China Mobile released a white paper on Super SIM card technology On June 20, aiming to clarify the architecture design and capability requirements of China Mobile for SIM cards in the personal field, and provide reference and guidelines for the industry when planning and designing SIM card-related technologies, products and solutions.

Yu Wei, director of the Business Research Institute of China Mobile Research Institute, said that the super SIM card enhances security capabilities and provides partners in various industries with a high quality container with high capacity and security level for multiple services through open space and multi-application security isolation.

He called it a secure storage space for 5G users' network authentication and application sensitive data, and a major technological innovation in the SIM card field.

The technical architecture of the super SIM card includes four parts: hardware layer, COS layer, application basic capability layer and application layer, and the super SIM card introduces new technical features in each layer.

At the hardware layer, the SWP interface is added to the ISO7816 interface to support NFC swipe card operation in coordination with mobile communication terminals.

At the COS layer, the addition of the BIP protocol, which allows SIM cards and servers to establish IP-based data connections, providing industry partners with lightweight SIM access technology.

In the application basic capability layer, the various security capabilities of SIM card, such as the calculation capability of cryptographic algorithm, the secure storage capability of card space and the dynamic management capability of the application, are provided to the upper layer of applications through standard and unified API.

In the application layer, through the GP application management technology, the SIM card space is divided into several security domains, isolated by firewall, and open to multiple industry partners to carry applications.

According to Yu Wei, the ability of SIM card can't be demonstrated without the support of terminal, and the standard and unified interface is the basic condition to realize the open ability of SIM card.

Combined with the original organic card channel, the Super SIM card can provide four major interface capabilities of SMS, local card interface, BIP and NFC for terminal APP and business platform to meet various online and offline transaction scenarios.

The Super SIM card also has pre-installed China Mobile's SIM Shield, SIM Quick Authentication and other applications, which can provide user authentication services for industry partners.
