OnePlus product manager denies OnePlus Z is going to use MediaTek processor

Pete Lau, founder and CEO of OnePlus, previously hinted that OnePlus would launch a cheap model.

It was then reported that the OnePlus mid-range model named OnePlus Z is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 820 chip that supports SA and NSA dual-mode 5G.

This has been denied by OnePlus product manager Zhang Xuan and OnePlus designer Hao Ran.

It's uncertain if the OnePlus Z is the final name for the device, and from the GeekBench information, the new OnePlus mid-range device is using what appears to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G mobile platform.

The Snapdragon 765G is Qualcomm's mid-range positioned 5G chip that offers a 10 percent increase in CPU performance, 40 percent increase in GPU performance, and 100 percent increase in AI performance compared to its predecessor.

It's built on the 7nm process and features the same CPU architecture as the Snapdragon 865, as well as the same AI hardware architecture as the Snapdragon 865.

And the Snapdragon 765G supports updated GPU drivers, HDR dynamic orchestration processing, and hyper-realistic enhancement of game quality.

In addition to the Snapdragon 765G, the new OnePlus mid-range device may feature a docked screen solution that may have a high refresh rate.

Pete Lau said that OnePlus will be the first to introduce more categories and price ranges in certain regions overseas, and will bring them to the Chinese market when the time comes.
