China is expected to have more than 600,000 5G base stations by the end of this year, covering cities above the prefecture level nationwide.
Lu Chuncong, deputy director of the Information and Communications Administration of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, made the remarks today that marks the first anniversary of the issuance of 5G licenses in China.
He said that over the past year of 5G commercialization, with the joint efforts of all parties in the industry, China's 5G has made positive progress.
By the end of May, China had shipped 59.85 million 5G mobile phones, and it is expected that by the end of 2020, the total number of 5G mobile phones shipped will be around 1.5 million. The number of mobile phone shipments will reach 180 million units.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, more than 250,000 5G base stations have been built nationwide so far.
One hundred and thirty 5G mobile phones have been licensed for sale on the Internet, and the number of 5G terminal connections has exceeded 36 million.
In April alone, the number of 5G subscribers increased by more than 7 million.
