The 5G party is attracting a growing number of companies in the mobile industry, and as of now, Samsung seems to be the one getting the most share.
Samsung now controls the entire 5G market share of 34.4%, the first quarter of this year 5G phone shipments of no less than 8.3 million units.
To say the least, this performance is quite eye-catching, but Huawei in second place is not very big compared to it, Huawei's 5G handsets shipped 8 million units in the same period, accounting for 32.2% of total sales.
Other mobile companies like Vivo, Xiaomi and OPPO are also doing well, but for now, Samsung is still the king of 5G phones.
I'm sure you've noticed one big name missing from this list - Apple. The company is generally considered to be Samsung's strongest competitor, though it has not launched a 5G until now, and the company is expected to bring a 5G iPhone later this year, when sales of 5G smartphones are estimated to see a significant increase.
While many predicted that Apple would overtake Samsung in 5G phone sales, there's no doubt that Samsung's strategy is on the right track.
The South Korean company initially only launched 5G phones in its high-end phone lineup, but it's apparently not cheap, which has largely limited the penetration of the new technology in the market.
However, Samsung has since managed to significantly boost its sales in the 5G handset market by bringing it to the mid-range of the channel. Mid-range phones are usually profitable, and it can help Samsung gain more market share.
As for Apple, the company will be betting heavily on the 5G iPhone, which is scheduled to be released in September. There's no doubt that Huawei isn't going to sit back and expect this episode to see the manufacturer make some changes in the 5G space as well, so it's going to be a very interesting battle, so let's just see what happens!
