Apple’s new high-end headsets are expected to be mass-produced in mid-2020, and AirPods 3 will be mass-produced in the first half of next year, Tianfeng Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a report released today.
The biggest change in AirPods 3's internal design is to abandon the soft and hard board + SMT used in the second-generation AirPods and switch to SiP. AirPods Pro 2 will be mass produced in the fourth quarter of 2021 – the first quarter of 2022, he said.
The new AirPods that are generally expected in the market and will be released in the second half of 2020 may be new Beats products, he said.
Kuo expects the shipments of the two headsets to be approximately 18–20 million units and 6–7 million units in the first quarter of 2020. The AirPods series is expected to ship approximately 80–90 million units in 2020.
