Douyu's latest update exploits with user computers for 'mining'

Douyu's latest update exploits with user computers for 'mining'-CnTechPost

Mining here doesn't mean mining bitcoin or Ether, but rather using your computer as a node to distribute live stream content.

With the recent release of the new version of the Douyu Live PC client by Douyu, a game-centric live streaming platform in China, your processor fan may rev up significantly when watching live content with the new version of the Douyu client.

The reason for this is that Douyu has added a mining module to the new version of the client to help Douyu distribute live stream content to reduce the pressure on the content distribution network.

And this module will use your processor, memory, and network bandwidth resources, and your fan will naturally speed up and cool down as hardware usage increases.

However, Douyu has marked note in the client that mentions the above, and also offers a partial reward for online users who are mined as a benefit of being mined.

Why is this called mining?

When we download content using the P2P protocol, we contribute our own uplink bandwidth, which means that we are downloading from someone else and someone else has to borrow your bandwidth.

The original use of this protocol was relatively simple, but in the early years Xunlei launched the crystal treasure, allowing users to purchase crystal treasure hang-up to contribute to the uplink bandwidth and so on.

In return, Xunlei will give users bonus points for online hang-up time and uplink bandwidth utilization, which can be redeemed for gifts or cash.

The new version of Douyu uses a technology called PCDN (P2P+CDN), which also uses users' computer resources to help Douyu distribute content.

Douyu also offers rewards to its users.

This update adds a new feature to Douyu's client called the "Blessing Bag", which is actually Douyu's reward mechanism for users who are mined by the online marketplace.

Watching live online at 19:00~24:00 according to Douyu's instructions gets the highest reward, as this is the time period when bandwidth traffic pressure is higher during peak live viewing.

As for why use a user computer for mining. The reason is that with the help of the user's hardware and bandwidth resources, it is possible to reduce the cost of Douyu live-streaming its own traffic purchases.

After all, live content is a very big expense for CDN traffic/bandwidth, and Douyu needs to invest a lot of money.

PS: the Blue Dot test even if you open the client without watching the live video card use is also very high, in theory, PCDN should not use the video card

Users can also choose to turn off the mined mine by.

The new Douyu mining module is reasonable in terms of description, after all, unlike plaything downloads, where there is no prominent reminder to the user.

But most users may not understand what this new bag is exactly if they know it is mining, it is estimated that many users do not agree with Douyu to do so.

Upgrading to the latest version will turn on the mining module, but you can also turn it off in the advanced options in the settings.

Set the path: Douyu Client/Settings/Advanced/Bag Entry, follow the Douyu instructions to turn off the bag function will not participate in the rewards, should be to turn off mining. If you're not interested in the blessed bag then you can turn it off in the above path, if you're a laptop it's recommended to turn it off to prevent the battery from running out too fast.

PCDN is a good sounding point called edge computing and a bad sounding point is mining, it is estimated that more and more software will use PCDN technology to reduce costs in the future.
