In 2019, Huawei ranked first in the global telecommunications equipment market revenue share rankings, the 2019 global telecommunications equipment market report released by market research company Dell'Oro Group showed.
The report covers the entire telecommunications equipment market including broadband access, microwave and optical transmission, mobile core and radio access networks (RAN), SP routers and CE switches. The entire telecommunications equipment market has grown by 2% in 2019, achieving a second consecutive year of revenue growth.
According to Dell'Oro Group, the top five vendors in global telecommunications equipment market revenue share in 2019 are: Huawei (28%), Nokia (16%), Ericsson (14%), ZTE (10%) and Cisco ( 7%).
For comparison, these five suppliers' market share in 2018 were 28%, 17%, 14%, 8% and 8%, respectively.
Other highlights of this report include:
After three consecutive years of decline in revenue from 2014 to 2017, the entire telecommunications equipment market has grown for the second consecutive year in 2019. Feeling optimistic.
In the technology sector, the median growth in the optical transmission and RAN markets has offset the impact of weak demand for microwave transmission and broadband access equipment markets.
The two largest equipment markets in 2019 are the mobile RAN and optical transmission markets, which together account for approximately 55% of the entire telecommunications equipment market.
Driven by the continued strong growth of 5G RAN last year, the RAN market showed unexpected results in 2019 and performed better than expected.
The global optical transmission market has maintained growth for the fifth consecutive year, setting the highest growth rate in nearly a decade. The strong growth of WDM has helped drive this acceleration.
The market's stable demand for PON equipment is not enough to offset the decline in investment in Cable and DSL, which has caused the entire broadband access market to see revenue decline for the fourth consecutive year.
So far, the US government's actions to curb Huawei's rise have brought mixed results. Dell'Oro Group estimates that Huawei's overall telecommunications equipment share will continue to increase in 2019, but the pace of market share growth in 2019 is lower than the average share growth in 2014-2019.
ZTE's revenue share increased by about 2% in 2019, reflecting a strong recovery since the US ban in the first half of 2018.
