Google has developed multiple operating systems, including Chrome OS, Android, and more recently the Fuchsia. According to Google's new US trademark application, the company may be developing another operating system, "Pigweed."
Reddit user lgats found that Google has submitted a new trademark application to the USPTO under the name "Pigweed" and that Google has stated that the Pigweed trademark will cover "computer operating software".
"Pigweed" is an edible green leafy plant with nutrients. When some Pigweed are fully grown, they dry out and form tumbleweed, spreading their seeds when the wind blows.
In fact, "Pigweed" has previously appeared in the code of the operating system Fuchsia developed by Google, and the trace of "Pigweed" has also been found in the Google Chromium code base, but this does not explain their relevance.
Currently, there is very little information about "Pigweed".
The name "Android" was registered five days before the operating system was first publicly released in 2007, and the term "Chromebook" was not registered until months after the first Chromebooks went on sale in 2011.
The name "Fuchsia" has been trademarked for more than two years and has not yet been officially released.
