Sony has applied for a trademark related to the upcoming PlayStation 5ย in Switzerland, which means that the company may soon launch its next-generation game console, according to LetsGoDigital.

According to Sony and rival Microsoft's release plans, both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be released by the end of 2020.

Some users speculate that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) will announce this surprise at the PlayStation conference, and the updated DualShock 5 controller will also be unveiled at the same time.

On January 27, the Japanese game console manufacturer filed a PS5 trademark application with the Swiss Federal Intellectual Property Office (IGE IPI), with a registration category of Class 9, which includes gaming computers.

Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 logo earlier this month, although it looks almost the same as its predecessor.

Recalling when PlayStation was released, Sony first applied for trademark registration of new machines to many countries and regions including Switzerland on February 13, 2013, and then officially announced it on February 20.

The majority of players expect PS5 to bring greater improvements than the last time, such as the introduction of faster loading solid-state storage (NVMe SSD), instead of traditional mechanical storage (HDD).

In addition, the PS5 is expected to support hardware-based ray tracing and 3D Audio. In terms of game content, Sony will obviously strive for backward compatibility.

The new Dual Shock 5 promises an enhanced experience with haptic feedback and adaptive triggering. It remains to be seen whether Sony will open PS5 reservations immediately after launch.

In the Netherlands, some retailers have already opened pre-booking channels. For example, NedGame and GameMania only need to pay a deposit of 50 euros (full retail price or 500 euros).

The PS5 is expected to be available before the holiday in late 2020, and the Xbox Series X from rival Microsoft is also expected to reveal more details during the E3 game show in June this year.
