Redmi Note 8 Pro scored 84 points in the DXOMARK Camera test, ranking in the bottom half of the list, according to review results posted on the agency’s Chinese website.
The score is the same as the gaming phone Black Shark 2 and second to other affordable models such as Motorola Moto One and Samsung Galaxy A50, the results showed.
In still image mode, the phone performed relatively well in the autofocus test, obtaining a photo score of 87 points. However, testers found that there are several areas where the phone needs to be improved: despite the phone's high-resolution sensor, the image still lacks fine detail, which will exacerbate this situation when shooting under typical indoor conditions.
The phone's dynamic range is also not large, and when shooting under difficult high contrast conditions, it will produce very noticeable high-light clipping.
Redmi Note 8 scored 78 points in video, ranking low on the list, the report said.
When recording outdoors or in typical indoor conditions, video films often exhibit good target exposure.
However, like still photos, there are a series of problems with the video film of this Redmi phone: under varying lighting conditions, our testers observed white balance and exposure instability and obvious step marks.
Although the camera's resolution is 4K, the details are still scarce, and noise can be seen in all lighting conditions, the report said.
DXOMARK concluded that the camera of this Xiaomi phone obviously cannot sit on a par with the best of its kind, and there are many areas for improvement in photo and video modes. But this Redmi is a budget phone, and its price is far lower than the current high-end smart phones.
With this in mind, its performance is pretty good after all, if you are willing to accept its shortcomings, then Redmi Note 8 Pro can allow you to enjoy many smartphone photography functions within your budget.
