In December last year, Loongson Technology released the 3A4000 and 3B4000, its next-generation processors. Today the company posted a detailed introduction to the features and new features of the two products.

Although using the same 28nm process as the previous generation, the Loongson 3A4000 doubles performance through design optimization, the company said.

Loongson 3A4000 is clocked at 1.8GHz-2.0GHz. Each CPU chip contains 4 independent processor cores. The general computing performance of Loongson 3A4000 is more than twice that of Loongson 3A3000.

Loongson 3B4000 is clocked at 1.8GHz-2.0GHz, and each CPU chip contains 4 independent processor cores.

Loongson 3B4000 has improved support for large memory capacity, supports DDR4 memory, and the maximum memory capacity of four-way server can reach 1TB.

Loongson 3A4000

The Loongson 3A4000 processor is used in Loongson desktops and laptops.

Loongson 3A4000 adopts a new generation of processor core (code GS464V) independently developed by Loongson, which belongs to the industry's new generation of microstructures.

The Loongson 3A4000 uses the same 28nm process as the previous generation Loongson 3A3000, and it doubles the performance through design optimization.

Loongson 3A4000 is clocked at 1.8GHz-2.0GHz. Each CPU chip contains 4 independent processor cores. The general computing performance of Loongson 3A4000 is more than twice that of Loongson 3A3000.

The data shows that the fixed-point and floating-point single-core scores of Loongson 3A4000 both exceed 20 points, while Loongson 3A3000 is about 10 points.

The Loongson 3A4000 has a built-in 256-bit vector calculation unit. The peak computing performance for scientific computing and high-density numerical information processing is more than 4 times that of the Loongson 3A3000.

Loongson 3A4000 can perform fine power management and has a built-in power control core, which can dynamically adjust frequency and voltage according to the operating load.

It also supports dynamic voltage regulation, which is a leading technology in self-developed processors.

Loongson said that through the operating system to achieve optimized power management, the working time of the Loongson 3A4000 notebook computer is more than double that of the Loongson 3A3000.

The Loongson 3A4000 was successfully taped out in April 2019. The product will be mass-produced by the end of 2019, and it will be available in batches in 2020.

Loongson 3B4000

Loongson 3B4000 belongs to the Loongson server CPU product line and is used for multi-channel server products.

Loongson 3B4000 is clocked at 1.8GHz-2.0GHz, and each CPU chip contains 4 independent processor cores.

Loongson 3B4000 supports two-way and four-way servers, that is, two or four Loongson 3B4000 chips are installed on a server motherboard, and a server contains a maximum of 16 processor cores.

All CPUs are directly interconnected through a high-speed bus interface, and share physical memory.

Loongson 3B4000 specifically optimizes the high-speed interconnect bus between CPUs, increasing the actual bandwidth of inter-chip memory access by more than 400%.

Loongson 3B4000 has improved support for large memory capacity, supports DDR4 memory, and the maximum memory capacity of four-way server can reach 1TB.

The performance of the Loongson 3B4000 four-socket server is more than four times that of the Loongson 3B3000 two-socket server.

Loongson 3A5000 and Loongson 3C5000

Finally, Loongson said that the Loongson 3A5000 improves the main frequency through 12nm process improvement. It is planned to tape out in the first half of 2020. Each chip contains 4 cores, the main frequency is 2.5GHz, and the single-core performance reaches about 30 points. This means that the performance of the Loongson CPU catches up with AMD.

In addition, Loongson 3A5000 is pin compatible with Loongson 3A4000.

Loongson 3C5000 is positioned for server CPU performance upgrade, mainly to increase the number of cores. It is planned to be taped out in the second half of 2020, using 12nm technology, each chip contains 16 cores, and supports 4 to 16 servers.
